About Me

If you’re a Manhattan girl, you’re constantly being exposed to “The New” everything. The new restaurant or lounge, new Club Space, new art space, new Beautique, new magazines, the new major, new slangs, new door guy, new party people, new friends, and even the new job even….  Change in Manhattan is like a revolving door: if you close your eye for a minute, it may just hit you on your way out. All of these new experiences for me got trickled down to new clothing and a reason to go shopping. My name is Sherece Bennett and I’m the person behind The Look.

I was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, which definitely contributes to my aesthetic when it comes to style and clothing. I’m heavily influenced by style trends in magazines and on the runway, and am constantly on the look out for how they translate into stores that I can afford to shop in. Let’s be real—if I were to try to keep up with The New everything, I would be The New Broke. I think Carrie Bradshaw said it best: “I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes.” I’m big on combining high-end accessories like shoes, handbags, and belts with lower-end clothing. From time to time I will splurge on luxury clothing, but I’ve come to realize it’s not a requirement to look good. The idea for this blog was born out of this idea—looking fantastic without spending gigantic; creating the look of the quintessential NYC “It Girl.” Whenever I go out, I’m constantly approached by women asking me where I got that dress or necklace or shirt and 9 out of 10 times the answer will be h&m, Zara, Topshop, or something of the like—affordable places!

Blogging is a fun way to explore and share my personal style with others while creating a platform for learning for myself. This fashion journey is a way for me to cultivate my passion while I’m becoming the woman I want to be.

Who do I want to be?

Secure……

Accomplished

Remembered

(Not “the old woman who lived in her shoes”)
