Tis the Season to be THANKFUL

Hello my lovelies, it’s been a while, two months to be exact actually. So much has happened in the last two months that it’s a sin that I haven’t been blogging.
I’ve visited London and Amsterdam, Halloween came and went, the time went back one hour, it started getting darker earlier, H&M launched its collaboration with Balmain and most recently my birthday happened! When I list everything out quite like that it almost seems like the entire fall season has gone by without a peep from me. So let me explain.

IMG_7505 Grief has been a very new emotion for me. Not that I walk around all happy go lucky everyday or anything, but I  rarely had to go through the stages of grief. Losing my darling dog Xanu, whom I’ve had for more than 10years left me feeling really empty and unmotivated. I put my game face on for fashion week, but after that I felt like my heart skipped a beat and I needed to slow down and back track.

IMG_7456

Luckily I have beyond amazing friends. I’m surrounded by a few special people who adore and care for me so very much that they have kept me busy and nursed me back to being Sherece. I felt like I was living in a little nest and everyday someone offered something to put a smile on my face. How ironic right? The nurse needs to be nursed. They had me dining out every evening and traveling on weekends. They constantly filled my house with more flowers than my nostrils could appreciate, HACH-CHchuuu ….lol. Nevertheless, they made my heart and my emotions bloom.

IMG_7553

Let’s fast forward to, today. Thanksgiving Day. I’m back to blogging, YAAAY!!! It feels splendid to feel open enough to share. I have so much to be thankful for and as a result so much to tell you all. Just because I haven’t been blogging does not mean that I have not been shooting. I would never go to Europe and leave my darling readers out of the loop with what I adore and what I wore. I also had the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER to write about; I’m afraid to begin because I have so much to cover.

As fashion enthusiasts when we think about thanksgiving the next thing that comes to mind is black Friday, naturally. I will be scurrying in flats to Bergdorf Goodman and possibly Barneys to see what I can get my little paws on.  Where will you be shopping? This fall the stores are filled with lots of pretty little things and romantic clothes. You do not need to be snatched-up by a lover to get in on this trend.

IMG_7394

IMG_7575One of my favorite pieces right now is the tie-neck blouse. It’s an easy way to make a fashion statement without thinking too much about it. Pair with jeans for a casual yet on trend look or with a pleated knee length skirt like I did for a more sophisticated and feminine feel.

IMG_7463
I did this quick shoot outside Trump Towers before grabbing my friend for lunch. Even a casual lunch date warrant high heels in this neighborhood. I call my pigalles my uniform, like school schoes I wear them EVERYWHERE!

IMG_7562
Have a wonderful and truly blessed Thanksgiving everyone! Thankfulness and appreciation are recurring themes in my life this year. Joy and happiness are the results of me recognizing this.

Sending HUGE HUGS & BIG KISSES and special Thanksgiving wishes to Michelle, Jaynie, Debra, Lavern, Marc, Holly, Ramone, Elena, Tatiana, Cristal, Lisa, Jasmin
Thank you all so very much for EVERYTHING! I’m beyond blessed to be surrounded by such remarkable people xoxoSB

The Vivienne Tam Girl

Watching the Vivienne Tam’s Spring/Summer 2016 runway show was like viewing a film you never want to come to an end. Each and every look was something unique and unexpected. The collection comprised everything from skirts with fun stripes and ruffled hems to jumpsuits with a relaxed fit and embroidery that look like both boys and girls could wear them.

VIVIANTAMGIRL

VIVIENTAMBOYLOOK

My look for the show combined both feminine and boyish features as well. I paired a lace off the shoulder blouse with an androgynous cut culotte jumpsuit.

IMG_7120

image3

Backstage after the show I had to ask Vivienne what was her favorite aspect of incorporating street style fashion into her collection. Vivienne loved the fact that she felt limitless with what she could create. With street style, there are “no rules.” Giving her the freedom of creating the Vivienne Tam Woman as a boundless individual who could be “glamourous, or boyish, just whoever they are, without pleasing anyone.”

image1 Combining fashion trends from the 1920’s, a period when women barely had a voice of their own, with the freedom of street culture today, produced so many fun, colorful and easy to wear additions to the spring closet of both men and women, interchangeably might I add.

IMG_7082Personally I loved the freedom and fluidity of the collection. I can relate to wanting to wear a more boyish outfit but yet still adding girly elements to play up my femininity without looking like a walking sex-bomb.

IMG_7250

The Vivienne Tam girl is unique and limitless. I am her, you could be her, or I could even be a Vivienne Tam boy, all I have to do is get dressed. I can be whoever I want to be, and so can you. xoxoSB

MY RACHEL ZOE REPORT – Viewing the Rachel Zoe Spring/Summer 2016 Presentation

When I think of the brand Rachel Zoe, immediately a very polished look and cohesive ensemble with really defined shapes come to mind. Rachel Zoe is very good at doing “glam”, and this is what she brought to her Spring/Summer 2016 presentation. The supermodels of the late 70’s and early 80’s in all their glamour inspired the collection. There were blouses with exaggerated ruffles and bell sleeves that all the hip- pretty-young-things would love to wear on a daily basis. As well as floor-length dresses with detailed beading and embellishments that would glide you over the velvet ropes at Studio 54.

COLLAGE

For the show, I was channelling my inner 70’s chic in all her glory!

IMG_7258

IMG_7265

IMG_7164

I felt like a walking fall trend report. Platforms, box-purse, tie-neck blouse, paisley print, suede, fringe, mini skirt, and bell sleeves all in one cohesive yet fun ensemble.

IMG_7278

IMG_7220

IMG_7350

Not quite the look described in Bette Davis Eyes, that played while the models did their finale run for the presentation. However, this look captured the attitude depicted by Kim Carnes. A woman who’s gleaming with confidence and naturally able to command the attention of a room with her look.

animation

Singing – “And she’ll tease you, she’ll unease you
All the better just to please you
She’s precocious
And she knows just what it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she’s a spy, she’s got Bette Davis eyes”

IMG_7153

You don’t need movie star genes to look amazing. You just need to dress well! Meaning loving and owning all your best features and playing them up with all the trends you love. As women we have so many different options to play with in fashion, so take advantage and get as glammed as you would like. You’re sure to find a few must-have pieces to channel your inner 70s IT Girl from the Rachel Zoe Spring/ Summer Collection, so be on the lookout for when it hits stores. xoxoSB

THE LITTLE ARMY GREEN JUMPSUIT

Hello my lovies. It’s fashion week season ! All the department stores and boutiques have already started the turn-over from summer to fall. What’s your favorite trend for the fall season?  Right now there is a huge 70’s trend and army green shades are also on the rise. As usual, don’t ever go trend crazy and buy a bunch of stuff that you won’t ever wear next season. Instead, buy pieces that you love and you’ll be able to combine with all of your other favorites and closet essentials. Like this delightful little army green jumpsuit from Topshop.IMG_6503

Honestly when I bought it, I didn’t expect it to fit like this. It just looked like a cute green jumpsuit on the rack. Once I put it on, it took me and my body to a whole other level

IMG_6477

IMG_6452

IMG_6474

This entire look, from my sunglasses to my sandals, are from Topshop. The amazing part is that every single item is UNDER a hundred dollars. These sandals are pretty old. I’ve had them for a few years, but there are tons of fun tan sandals out now, with fringe and feathers, so it should not be too hard to find similar or better. I would even wear this with a nude pump or ditch the heels altogether and wear some haute sneakers. Check out Schutz shoes for some affordable and similar options.

IMG_6555

IMG_6558

IMG_6528

The rest of this look pretty much boiled down to accessories and attitude. When you feel confident in what you wear, it adds an entire other element to your look. This is why I’m always an advocate for shopping looks that you love and never force yourself into an outfit simply because it’s a new trend.

IMG_6444

IMG_6482

IMG_6494 Hope you guys all love this Topshop look. It’s chic, hot, and affordable!  As usual, all the items are listed below. I was unable to find a direct link to shop the sunglasses online, but I bought them this week and there were lots more in store. Happy shopping, lovies! xoxoSB

Palm Leaves and Pink with No Sleeves

Today is the 2nd of the five Sunday Fundays left in the summer. I’m still not ready to say goodbye to my rooftop lifestyle nor outdoor dining.  #SayitAintSo. I feel like I’m living in Game of Thrones and, “Winter is Coming.” That’s how much I don’t look forward to it. The only happy part about the cold season for me is that we get to dress in layers and have so much fun with clothes.  Which brings me to today’s post on the sleeveless vest…

IMG_6320

I’m sure you’ve been seeing them pop up in every store from Zara to Bergdorf’s and every brand from H&M to Helmut Lang since the spring. It’s definitely #trending. This pretty pink piece is from Topshop. Originally $75 but now on sale for $40! Hit the sale racks girls!

Now that it’s August, the evenings are a little cooler, so it’s the perfect time to play with light layers that are probably too thin for the winter and maybe even for the Fall. Am I the only one who feels like we BARELY got a summer?

It’s the perfect time to play with light layers that are too thin for the winter !IMG_6383

My plan for this outfit was to put pieces together that were all very different but together made a hell of a summer statement. I don’t know if I’m a bigger shopaholic or clothes hoarder…..lol! I’ve  been itching to wear this patchwork Chanel bag since I got it in May! #Love  So I finally gave it it’s debut.

IMG_6348This H&M romper is super cute, but a message to the busty……definitely TRY ON FOR FIT. I’m usually a size 2 but ended up in a size 6 because of my #BoobSituation. If you’re a B cup or smaller, this fun little baby will probably fit true to size. If you see it and like it, just grab it. At just $39.99 it’s such a steal!

I adored the ruby stone detail in these earrings and these super cute gold midi rings.

I got them all from ROCKSBOX!

No Dolce & Gabbana….No Problem!

Hello my fashion-forward lovies,

How was your July 4th weekend? I wish I could hear from everyone about where you went and what you wore. Tag me in your July 4th photos on Instagram, so I can like and leave comments. I went to a fabulous July 4th party in the Hamptons. I’ve been wanting to do a write-up about it, but all I have are iPhone pics so I’ve been hesitant.  I’m addicted to PRO photos now. They’re just so bright and puuurrrdddy!IMG_5419

So now,  let’s talk about this look!

IMG_5457

We all know that I pride myself on being a Jamaican Belle living on the Upper East Side. However, which girl did not feel like she wanted to get in on her Hispanic heritage when she saw the Dolce  & Gabbana Spring 2015 collection?

dg2

I was obsessed with these shorts but was intimidated by the pricetag even after they went on sale from $6995 to $3260. (Click the photo below for links to the items)

Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2015

Since I could not join Dolce & Gabbana’s army of matadors, I decided to  try to re-create the Look for Le$$.

My main focus was the flamenco ruffles, the embroidery and brocade.
IMG_5094
IMG_4981
Lucky for me, H&M has  high-waist embroidered shorts in stores right now and they are on sale for $25! They are not silk or brocade, but you cannot beat the price for the look and the quality. The fabric is 100% cotton and they are super comfortable. They even give the appearance of bloomers even though the hem is not cut as high.
If you’re still not convinced to buy them, check out  how similar they are to these Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2015 shorts. These shorts are definitely #ONTREND!
IMG_5037
IMG_5050
IMG_5055
The blouse I’m wearing is old.  It’s from JCrew Collection from 2013. You can basically wear any white shirt of your choice with these shorts. Whether button-down or cropped, just pick something that you love.
IMG_5036

By the way, if you are wondering about me walking around in these platform sandals all day – no worries whatsoever! These Saint Laurent platforms are light and comfy. You literally feel like you are gliding through the streets on stilts with ease.

These Saint Laurent platforms are light and comfy! IMG_5194

These are definitely shorts that makes your derriere be all that it can be, plus some more !

IMG_5195
Walking around in this outfit, I felt like my name was Sheresa Bonita and I was roaming the streets of Spain and dancing in my little garden of homegrown flowers without a care in the world.

The Matching Scuba Set

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, my lovies!

I hope everyone who is celebrating has a fun-filled day planned with Dad. If you’re not celebrating, it’s Sunday so you of course have an excuse to go out for a fun lunch or brunch with friends! Maybe combine the two and have a #SundayFunday #FathersDay !

IMG_4353

IMG_4333

So lets’s talk about this look.  I’m sure you guys have been seeing matching scuba sets everywhere, but has anyone actually tried it? They are especially popular at H&M. If you see a printed scuba skirt or midi skirt  you love, the matching top will be coming out in the upcoming weeks. I’ve always been afraid of a full-on matching, printed look. Remember that phrase matchy-matchy?  Lol!

 #MatchyMatchy !?!

IMG_4325

Although I’m programmed to try to pair different textures and opposite separates together, like here ,  I decided to go for it with this H&M midi skirt and bodysuit. In my eyes, pairing the two made it look like a dress instead of two separates.  I absolutely fell in Iove with the print.

IMG_4395

To break things up, I added this  black Moschino belt. I’m all for a chic belted look. These days Moschino has been serving all things, pink, pretty, printed and “Babrbie-licious,” so I think this printed set  goes with that theme. Except it’s from H&M #TheLookForLess.  I find that adding a logo belt to an otherwise uber affordable outfit gives the look that coveted edge it needs. It makes people go “where’d you get that outfit?” and, in return, gives you the pleasure of screaming “H&M!” Nothing better than looking great and feeling great without breaking the bank.

Adding a logo belt to an otherwise uber affordable outfit gives the look that coveted edge it needs.

IMG_4427

IMG_4412

Since there was so much going on with this set, I chose to accessorize with the deeper and more dominant colors in the print verses wearing a yellow shoe and pink bag. Although I love me some pink , today was not the day. This is one of those instances where the less you add to a look, the more you allow it to speak volumes on its own!

IMG_4324

IMG_4319

IMG_4342

I couldn’t help myself with these pineapple earrings, though. Feeling like all I need is a basket on my head……lol!

But, like I always say…IT’S FASHION! So let loose and have fun with it. You can’t take yourself or your looks too seriously. Until next time, lovies. About to hop onto this tangerine scooter and ride off into the sunset ….. ok not really but how awesome is this as a prop in my shoot !

Saying Hello to SUMMER in South Hampton

Hello my fashion belles and beauts, aren’t you all ecstatic that we have finally entered the summer season? For most NYC girls, your weekends will now begin and end in the Hamptons.  Long beach days, late brunches, charity events, Saturday night parties, and after parties . Let the games begin!

IMG_4022I fell in love with the color and cut of this Zara dress. Burnt orange and sandy hues are all the rage this summer. This dress is an easy way to try out this color trend without thinking too much about it or breaking the bank. #TheLookforLe$$

IMG_4011

IMG_4051

IMG_4097

My favorite thing about this dress is the  placement of the cut-outs all over, and how it cinches my waist.  It’s  flowy and pretty, yet extremely sexy. Perfect for a daytime brunch party with the girlies. I was  dressed and headed to the kick-off of the  Day & Night brunch in South Hampton.

IMG_4104

IMG_4114

IMG_4040

I decided to stick to neutral tones but added a bit of va-va-vroom with these suede Miu Miu gladiator sandals from Net-a-porter.  Love! Love! Love!

Animation

This is my first time wearing them, and they were as  comfortable as can be. The heel is just the right height, and it looks like you’re walking on glass heels when you wear them. So chic!

IMG_4205

IMG_4017

IMG_4120

When dressing for the Hamptons, you want to be chic,

yet not so dressed up that you appear to be trying too hard. It can get tricky, but when in doubt, just go with what feels comfortable. If the heels are  too high to walk in,  ditch them, and if the skirt is so tight that it keeps riding up, you may want to ditch that too.

Wear accessories that accentuate your outfit, not overpower your look.

IMG_4143

IMG_4232

IMG_4288

The Day & Night brunch party is DEFINITELY  “A  DO” on Saturdays if you’re out East.

The music is incredible, all the people are as well dressed as I am , and the vibe is just super fun. Beautiful people lounge on the day beds or dance in the garden, drinking rose or prosecco poolside. You’re bound to leave with a few new friends and maybe even a few telephone numbers !

image1

One of my favorite things about the summer is all the excitement that it comes with. Everyone is looking forward to something. New parties, exciting travel plans, in my case new hangbags and shoes ……lol……for others a new lover…..maybe. Whatever you are looking forward to, make it happen, and may your summer fun never end. Sunday Funday

Happy Memorial Weekend my lovies.

I hope you all are having a great time. We’ve managed to avoid the rain this weekend, but the temperature readings could be a little higher today. One of my favorite things about late spring is the opening of the roof lounges for the summer season. As a Jamaican, you live for outdoor parties. Living in New York City, rooftop lounges are the closest you get to that.  Last Sunday my friend was hosting the opening of STK roof, so I got dressed and ready for a super warm #SundayFunday in meatpacking.

IMG_3693

The secret to dressing for a #SundayFunday is what I call DAYTIME GLAM! You want to look dressed up but in an understated kind of way. I love color, beading and embellished stuff for day time. However, say NO to that shiny sequin dress.  Sundays are usually a more relaxed day in Manhattan. I’ve been raving about the tie-neck-blouse all season, and this is the perfect opportunity to get in on the trend. This style is absolutely great paired with your favorite distressed jeans and high-heels. I absolutely love destroyed denim shorts, I’ll take them in all lengths, colors and brands, THANK YOU

IMG_3708

These shorts are from Urban Outfitters , and it is my go-to place to shop for affordable denim shorts. They have a brand called Urban Renewal that revamps vintage Levi’s into all different styles. They have short ones, boyfriend style, high waisted and low- rise options. Click  here to see more options from this brand.

I love the wash of these jeans as well as how perfectly distressed they look. They have that worn look that I love. I hate buying distressed jeans and it looks like someone just got busy with a pair of scissors yesterday. I hate anything UNauthentic!

Buy them! If for no other reason, they make your ASS  look A-MA-ZING!

IMG_3814  IMG_3831

IMG_3823

IMG_3712

The biggest challenge of hanging out in The Meatpacking District is walking in high heels. That cobblestone paved road is a shoe killer….lol. You have to be particularly careful! Strategically walking on the tips of your toes instead of your heels helps.  I did not want to risk getting a nasty tear or jab in the suede of these Giuseppe Zanotti Sandals. They are just TOO PRETTY

Have you ever had something, that because you loved it too much, you almost didn’t want to wear it? I got these last year and this is their second time in the streets…..lol.

IMG_3867

The best thing about having brunch at STK Roof is your undisturbed views of the  High Line. Good music, great food, fantastic views and great shoes What more could a New York City girl ask for on a Sunday?  Oh yea….great company and that was defnitely a CHECK PLUS xoxoSB

A Sunday Funday Mother’s Day

There are many things in my life that aren’t perfect and many things in my world that aren’t the way that I would want them to be. However, my mother is the only entity in my universe that is undoubtably flawless and absolutely perfect in my eyes.

IMG_3231

IMG_3331

As women, a mother’s love is something that is cherished. It’s the perfect example of one of those things that you can’t live with  and can’t live without. Mothers have smiles more powerful than their will, and eyes that will move mountains if they stand in your way.

IMG_3240

My mother calls me her second mother and husband all combined into one.  This is because I treat her like she’s the daughter I haven’t had yet and spoil her as much as she spoiled me.

IMG_3410

IMG_3382

I have a very youthful mom –  both in appearance as well as in spirit. She is the perfect definition of forever young or a perfect example that, “black just don’t crack

IMG_3365

In honor of Mother’s Day, I decided to do a look for moms with my own mom. So, obviously, the look had to be flirty and sexy, yet classy and elegant all in one. I loved the idea of putting her in a lacey crop top, and this black one from Zara was perfect! There is something about a midi skirt that just screams classy with an understated elegance. Paired with a crop top it’s flirty and feminine and fun!

Flirty!

IMG_3466

Feminine !

IMG_3305

Fun !

IMG_3497

I completed the look with the Christian Louboutin pigalle 100mm. I wear only 120mm and up, but for my mommy, these are a bit too steep. At our age we’re all about looking good and being #ONTREND. However, for more mature women I believe that comfort is a big factor that goes into creating a look. Look at my mom strut down streets in her Louboutin 100mm like she was about to RIP the Runway !

Yasss Mommy Work!

IMG_3554

IMG_3516

IMG_3407IMG_3474

As New York City girls, we’re always on the go and have so much to think about that we sometimes lose sight and take for granted the people in our lives that are most important. It happens. It’s normal. It’s okay to forget to stop and smell the roses sometimes. However, it’s important to water them, cherish them, and  make sure they bloom.

IMG_3369

So my take-home message this Mother’s Day is make sure the people who matter the most to you know how much they matter to you while they are  alive and still in your life.

IMG_3617

Whether you have a dad for a mom, a stepmom or just an unblieveable mother-in-law or mother-like friend, take the time to say, “I love more than you probably know,” and “Thank You!”  for everything that you are and all that you’ve done. Keeping it in your mind doesn’t count, but saying  it  and showing it does. Happy Mother’s Day to all and most importantly Happy Mother’s Day, Lavern xoxoSB
