A Very Very Happy Sherece Day 2014

15 November 2014

2014 was the first year I decided I did not want to make a “big deal” out of my birthday. Normally I drive myself crazy with custom cakes and planning a party. (Getting your closest friends together for a birthday dinner and party is sometimes a bigger headache than you think!) Trying to coordinate where to eat, what to wear, and where to party on a budget  can easily take on a life of its own. This year I  decided to skip that headache. The fantastic twist was that all my friends and loved ones decided to make a production out of it instead!

I thought that birthday shopping was going to be the highlight of the week but I was in for so many more surprises that warmed my heart and had me feeling like pudding.

First,  on Wednesday, November 12th, two dozen pink roses showed up and then later an Edible Arrangement with balloons from three of my friends.

Then on Thursday Morning, SHERECE DAY, I woke up to my door completely covered in birthday wrapping paper and a stack of Bergdorf Goodman boxes from my neighbor. This was my face (and in this order): My very own Birthday Door. I swear my building must believe a princess lives on the third floor. My neighbor is beyond amazing.

The day only got better from here. I had dinner at Beautique  where I was surprised with more roses  (but red ones this time!) and a gift from Tiffany’s.

I looked like  the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland smiling from ear to ear.

The dress I wore for dinner was from Topshop Exclusive Collection. I bought it at the the opening of the 5th Ave location; it was perfect for a birthday dinner for two.

My mother and aunt did not fail to surprise me for dessert. I was wondering why they kept asking me where I was going for dinner. Here I was thinking I was just going to have some kind of random dessert with a candle on top when out came  my favorite red velvet cake from Lords Bakery in Brooklyn Of course I made a wish.

I didn’t know what to wish for—everything I wanted was actually happening at that moment! Nevertheless, I did not waste my wish I’m a strong believer in the power of the birthday wish.

I’m very private about my personal life and who I date—only close friends and family know that information. Having a relationship that’s very public for me is very stressful because then you’re faced with so many expectations…not to mention the explanations if things don’t work out and you start to date someone else. However, I couldn’t help myself with sharing this pic…well, a peek at least. Kissing in the rain (yes I’m a hopeless romantic.Allow me to have my moment…in the rain…on my birthday…thank you! )

A PERFECT ENDING TO THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR…lol…well, we’re not done just yet

The next day, Friday November 14th, these showed up. How gorge is this arrangement?! It came with balloons and chocolates too. I have the most thoughtful friends and they know me too well.

Later…this little black box from Net-a-porter followed them…yes, I totally agree; I was definitely having the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER .

When shoes like this show up in the mail, that’s a reason in itself to celebrate.  Location of the birthday party: Tao Downtown Lounge.

Since I had wings on my feet  I decided to go with an angel look and pair my silver heels with a white matte sequin dress. I purchased this dress at Herve Leger during their summer sale. If you like it, you can buy it here now for a fraction of the cost I paid during the summer.

You know when you’re having too much fun at your own party when you forget to take a good full body outfit pic. Sorry, guys, I don’t really have any great photos of my outfit other than a few that my friends snapped of me.  I spent the night dancing like my feet had wings, bouncing from the top of the table to twirling on the ground with all the people who love me. It was an incredible evening.  The best part was all my friends were all dancing and enjoying with me. Even my mom and aunt were in on the #TURNUP

The one year I decided not to plan anything but shopping, the party, the dinner, and even magnum bottles of Clicquot and Belvedere, it all happened. Definitely ironic. Last year I spent so much time planning and preparing, getting a custom cake and special hairdo, and invited far more people…yet it did not compare in the least to the small and intimate birthday I had this year. Smaller in size but so rich in company. xoxoSB
